Kishan is one of the youngest children in his classroom. He is six years old and he has recently started school. His sister Kali (aged 12) is sitting next to him. She used to look after him while working in stone processing as well.
The volunteers of the local NGO Manjari visited the village and encouraged Kishan’s and Kali’s parents to let them go to school. That’s when their parents realised that education is an important stepping-stone for a better future for their children.
Both Kishan and Kali are now going to school six days a week. This means that Kishan does not have to work in the stone industry from a very young age. He now has much better prospects of a better job with healthier working conditions.
