The organisation EndaMali works to eradicate child labour from informal gold mining in the Sikasso region in Mali. For example by setting up child-labour-free zones. Together with everyone who is involved in and around the goldmines, they are working hard to get children out of work and into school. One of the most important activities is changing the ingrained ideas that continue to exist about child labour. And to develop alternative ways of generating an income. We know from experience that this is possible.
Over the last three years, local partners of Stop Child Labour have been working very hard on setting up child-labour-free zones in 6 African countries. Thanks to Omar’s Dream project 43,278 children have been taken out of work and put into school. Thanks to the support of everybody involved and thanks to the funding by the Dutch Postcode Lottery.
