In India, more than half a million children work in the cultivation of fruit and cotton seed. Dutch seed businesses are also involved in this sector. The children work long hours in the hot sun, are poorly paid, are exposed to pesticides and often do not attend school.
Stop Child Labour regularly investigates this issue, calls the companies concerned and the Dutch government to account and cooperates with local organisations to find solutions. Child labour has been reduced in the seed industry, but there is still much to be done.
